A gentle walk towards Acaster Malbis along the river, then heading towards Bishopthorpe, before returning to the river and returning to Naburn. There will be a coffee stop just after Bishopthorpe.

Level of difficulty: This is an undulating walk in the Wolds. Most of the paths are well defined but it is autumn and we have had a lot of rain recently so there will be mud.

Cafe: Thought we could try the biker cafe in Fridaythorpe which is 2 miles from Wetwang on the way back to York. (Unless anyone has another suggestion)

Sunday walk: Sheriff Hutton - 6 November

Start point: The crossroads in the centre of the village near the Highwayman Pub. Roadside parking in the centre of the village

Level of difficulty: Easy to moderate. There are a couple of modest climbs.

A walk across fields at the foot of the Howardian Hills is followed by an ascent on to Mowthorpe Hill from where there are some lovely views over the Vale of York. After descending, the return leg follows a more undulating route back to Sheriff Huitton. Possibility of some muddy fields if there has been recent rainfall.

Level of difficulty:  The walk starts by heading down to the River Wharfe where we walk East along the Ebor Way before heading up to East Keswick to  pick up the Leeds Country Way Path to return to Harewood.

We are into Autumn so paths could be a little muddy.

Wednesday walk - 28th September @ 10.00am - Skipwith Common

Start: 10am prompt. Meet in the Car Park on the edge of Skipwith Common at the end of King Rudding Lane. 

 

When travelling on the A19 from York to Selby, King Rudding Lane is a Left-Hand Turn approx 200 yards after the 1st right hand turn into Riccall.  This is a single-track road which you follow for approx 1.5 miles. Parking is just after the Kinsman Activity Centre and by the woodpile.

Start: 10am prompt - Meet in Car Park at the RSPB St Aidans Nature Reserve near Allerton Bywater

 

Parking: There is a car park at the Nature Reserve which costs £4.00 (takes card) - Free to RSPB members. Alternatively there is free parking on Astley Lane just by the entrance to the Reserve.

Start: 10am prompt - Meet by the roundabout in Pickering where the Whitby - Malton road (A169) crosses the Thirsk - Scarborough Road (A170)

Parking: There is a long-stay car-park just by the roundabout. It costs £5.00 for 6 hours and appears to be CASH-ONLY.

There is also no-limit free parking on the A170 roadside. (Heading East away from Pickering)

Level of difficulty: This is lovely walk with picturesque villages, babbling brooks, woodland walking, field-edge walking and even a bit of road walking. There are a couple of steep-ish climbs; not particularly hard but enough to raise the heart rate. The total amount of climbing is approx. 850 ft.

Toilets: Plenty of bushes!

Cafe: We pass a farm cafe after about an hour and I was proposing taking a coffee-break there. There are also plenty of cafes in Pickering at the end.

The Wolds offer wonderful views at all times of the year and especially in spring. Our walk takes us on a clockwise route towards Fridaythorpe, before looping back towards Huggate. The hills are gentle.

This is a gentle walk starting from behind the Knavesmire, heading towards Acaster Malbis, before returning along the river to Bishopthorpe and then back towards York.

There will be a chance to buy a drink and even lunch by the river in Bishopthorpe before we return along the river to the Knavesmire.

Start: 10am prompt - near Newton Mulgrave - follow A169 through Sleights  to roundabout, turn left onto A171. Continue for about 8.5 miles then turn right onto B1266 signposted Sandsend. Continue for 1.3 miles then on left a track to parking.

This is a scenic walk starting in the pretty village of Levisham in the North York Moors. We will head towards the moors. Taking an anti-clockwise route across moorland, arriving at the northern edge of the Hole of Horcum. We then descend into the Hole, walk south and then climb gently to finish in Levisham ready for a cuppa or pint.

This a gentle walk in a historic part of Yorkshire - home to the battle of Towton and Cock Beck - the bloodiest stream in Britain's history!

The walk starts out from Towton along Cock Beck, then walks through the grounds of Hazelwood Castle, plus another look at Lead Chapel.

We will finish the walk in Tow ton with a visit to the tiny Greyhound pub.
