The format of the weekend is generally and loosely as follows:

Friday: Arrive afternoon/evening and meet at a local pub around 7pm for drinks. Organise own meal.

Saturday: walk of 10-12 miles starting at 10am. After end of walk visit local cafe/pub for refreshments and then reconvene in local pub for drinks. Organise own meal.

Sunday: walk of 8 miles starting at 10am. After end of walk visit local cafe/pub and then head back to York.

Accommodation: simply book your own in one of the many local B&Bs, hotels, of camping/caravanning sites nearby.

Sunday walk: Settrington - Sunday 9 August

Start: 10am prompt. The start point is Settrington near the primary school, the junction between Chapel Road and Back Lane. Park on the road near the beck. There is a small village green near the beck.

The walk begins at Settrington, passes through North Grimston and explores Settrington Beacon with some great views.

It's a varied walk which includes a variety of walking surfaces including (unfortunately) some tarmac paths.

Sunday walk: Boltby - 12 July 2026

Start: 10am prompt. Park considerately along the main road near the church, ensuring not to block any driveways as the road is narrow. Share lifts where possible.

Facilities: toilets and coffee/tea (including milk) making facilities available in the village hall (small donation requested). Bring some cake or biscuits to share.

A gentle climb out of the village at the start. A lovely walk that loops around Gormire lake, taking in a variety of woodland and pasture.

Leave Burton Leonard head to Bishop Monkton then to Ripon canal and back to Bishop Monkton then head back.

Sunday walk: Poppleton - 10th May 2026

Start: 10am prompt - park in the small car park that can be found beyond The Lord Nelson pub - as the road bears to the left, there is a small parking area to the right, opposite Riverside Gardens.

Toilets and refreshments: The Lord Nelson pub

This countryside walk promptly leaves Poppleton across farmland towards Redhouse Wood which should be a sea of bluebells at this time of year. Shortly after the path takes us to the confluence of the Ouse and Nidd opposite Beningbrough Hall. The walk then returns for several miles along the river towards Poppleton with a short stop to view the pumping station serving Leeds.

Sunday walk: West Tanfield - 8 March

Start: 10am prompt. Meet at the West Tanfield Memorial carpark. West Tanfield is a village on the A6108, north of Ripon, 2 miles past Lightwater Valley. The car park is on the RHS just after crossing the bridge into the village. 'Free' parking, though a small donation in the  Honesty Box is appreciated.

This 8.2 mile walk follows the River Ure towards Grewelthorpe before crossing east to North Stainley then following the Ure back to North Tanfield.

Leave village towards Burton le Street then a 406ft climb (the only one!) Then walk on the ridge, lovely views (weather depending).

Note: This is the walk from 11 January rescheduled to 18 January (due to snowy weather conditions).

Start: 10am prompt - park near New Inn in Cropton or around the nearby village green and High Street.

This lovely walk starts in the village of Cropton, near Pickering, and on the southern edge of the North York Moors, along woodland paths, farm tracks, and country lanes.

This undulating walk around the River Seven on the fringes of the North York Moors takes in three moorland villages, three pubs and three churches.
