Crackpots Mosaic Trail - Sunday 12 July

Date: Sunday, July 12

Leader: Martin

Start time: 10.30am - as the starting point is quite remote and not a particularly straightforward journey from York. There is plenty of potential to get lost on route to the start point! The following link will help

Distance: 7 miles

Time: 4 hours

Level of difficulty: Moderate - with tarmac roads, gravel tracks, fields and a stream crossing

Refreshments: The nearest pub is the Queen's Head in Kirkby Malzeard. There are lots of cafes in Ripon.

It is known as the Crackpots Mosaic Trail. It's a seven-mile trail around part of Dallowgill, near Kirkby Malzeard in Nidderdale and is illuminated with 22 mosaics depicting local scenes and flora and fauna which might be encountered along the route.

It is best to come through the village of Kirby Malzeard towards the hamlet of Swetton on the Greystone Head road. Beyond Swetton you drive across Swetton Moor to a car parking area on the moor above Tom Corner Farm (SE 181727). It is about a couple of miles west of Kirkby Malzeard.

OS Explorer map 298 Nidderdale covers the area.
