Sunday walk: Naburn - 10am on Sunday 12 December

Start: 10am prompt. Meet in car park next to Naburn Lock.

From York, go out the Fulford Road (A19) and before ring road turn right onto B1222 towards Naburn. Drive past the marina, through Naburn village and after about half a mile turn right at the sign for Naburn Lock caravan park. Drive past the caravan park, through the gate and the car park for Naburn Lock is in front of you. The cafe is in the banqueting hall to the right.

Sunday walk: Knaresborough and Nidd Gorge - 10th October

Distance: 8.5 Miles

Difficulty: A couple of small hills only along the route. There is some walking by the Nidd so be prepared for it being a little muddy / slippery in places, especially if it has been raining. 

Parking: Knaresborough Waterside Car Park, Waterside (road) - £1.80 All day charge. (Note: This is NOT the  Conyngham Hall car park which is next to the A59)

If travelling from York on the A59, suggest you turn left  onto the B6163 at the traffic lights at the top of the first rise into Knaresborough. Follow the B6163 down towards the river.  Waterside (road) is a turning on the RHS immediately before the bridge. The car park is approx 300 yards on the LHS.

Distance: Approx 8.5 miles Level of difficulty: Good paths / quiet roads. Field walking was quite dry even after recent heavy overnight rain. Finishes with an uphill tarmaced section.

This walk is a circular walk to/from Sheriff Hutton on quiet roads, farm paths and field edges.

Sunday's walk - Levisham (North York Moors) - 8th August @ 10.00am

Start: 10am prompt - meet at the top of the village near the pub. Give yourself sufficient travelling time as Levisham is a good 10 mins off the Pickering to Whitby Road. And don't forget the weekend traffic on the A64!

Level of difficulty: Paths are generally good but there are 3 longish climbs - the last one being the climb up the 1 in 5 road back into Levisham. 

Cafe: The cafe in Lockton is open until 4pm 

This walk leaves Levisham and goes up to the start of the Moors where there is a good view of the Hole of Horcum. It then heads down to Levisham Station and north along Newton Dale before climbing up the side of Raindale Beck where we will join the Tabular Hills Walk Path. This path leads back to Levisham.

This walk is in a quieter part of the Wolds from the little village of Kirby Grindalythe. (North West of Sledmere). It is a fairly easy walk on field edges, quiet roads and farm tracks over typical undulating wolds countryside.

Sunday walk: Studley Royal and Deer Park - Sunday 11 July

Start: 10am prompt - meet at Fountains Abbey Visitor Centre.

Parking: Free parking is available from at the main car park at the Visitor Centre from where the walk starts. There are two other car parks, but please use the one Visitor Centre which is usually open from about 9am onwards. The Visitor Centre opens at 10am.

Route: The walk skirts Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden but heads through woods and across parklands towards Ripon and includes the village of Studley Royal and the Deer Park.

Start: 10am prompt - layby on A166 - drive out A166, driving up Garrowby Hill. Take the right hand turn signposted Huggate (the sign also shows a symbol for parking and picnic area). Park in the layby and picnic area, immediately to your left.

This is a fairly gentle walk across farmland towards Nunnington, along the river to West Ness and then returning across farmland to Hovingham.

Sunday walk: Rosedale Abbey and mining country - Sunday 11 April 10am

Each group of walkers consists of a leader and five walkers to abide by current Covid rules.


Start: 10am prompt from outside Milburn Arms Hotel, Heygate Bank, Rosedale Abbey, YO18 8RA.
There is parking along the street and off road nearby

Level of difficulty: Moderate, a few hills but mainly walking on well maintained tracks

Amount of time required: ~4 hours

Facilities: toilets and refreshments in Rosedale Abbey village

This is a wonderful walk taking in scenic views of the North York Moors and the East Mines, once a busy and noisy centre for ironstone mining. We will be walking along farm and disused railway tracks, as well as across moor and farm land.

This lovely walk takes in the ruins of the castle in Sheriff Hutton before heading across fields to the medieval village of East Lilling, Thornton-le-Clay, and Stittenham Wood, before returning past the Motte and Bailey castle and graveyard in Sheriff Hutton.

Refreshments: by river in Bishopthorpe and at end on Knavesmire

This flat walk heads out of York across the racecourse, joining the planet walk towards Selby, and across fields to Acaster Malbis. We then return along the riverbank to have lunch near Bishopthorpe Palace before continuing along the river to the Knavesmire.
