Sunday walk: Sitting Man on Castleton Rigg - Sunday 8 July

Start: 10am prompt - parking area just to the west of Castleton. Immediately after the cattle grid, turn left just as the road bears right and drops into Castleton.  Parking is 200m on the right hand side.

Leader: Keith

Distance: 8.5 miles

Time: 4-5 hours

Level of difficulty: Fairly strenuous (150 fitbit stairs). Walking is on roads,  paths & fields.

Facilities: No toilets, but there are some big gorse bushes to hide behind at the start! There are cafes and pubs in Castleton.

The Sitting Man is a 10ft sculpture by Sean Henry on Castleton Rigg overlooking Westerdale. The walk will take us to Westerdale to view the statue from a distance before climbing up to the sculpture for lunch. We will return to Castleton along Danby Dale.

There is a long climb from Westerdale up to the sculpture which is steepish in places. The rest of the walk is typically North York Moors.

Look forward to seeing you there - bring lots of water to keep hydrated!
