Location: Keld in Swaledale
Date: Sunday 15th April
Walk leader: Steve Poile
Start: 10am from the centre of the village. Park in the farm car park (£2 in the honesty box).
Let me know if anyone needs a lift from Bannatyne's at 8am.
Distance: 9.5 miles
Level of difficulty: moderate
Refreshments/toilets: At about half way through the walk we will arrive at Tan Hill Inn, reputedly the highest pub in Britain, so a good place for lunch. At the end of the walk, we can find somewhere in Richmond for a drink if anyone is interested.
We will set off from the hamlet of Keld that lies at the head of Swaledale, with its cascading waterfalls. We head onto the Pennine Way towards Stonesdale Moor arriving at Tan Hill Inn for refreshements. This is reputedly the highest pub in Britain. We then head towards the Nine Standards Rigg, a line of cairns supposedly erected by the Roman army to look like troops from a distance. Then we head back towards Stonesdale Beck and back towards Keld.
