Level of difficulty: Mainly easy walk

Refreshments and toilets: Cafes and toilets in Helmsley

A delightful walk up Beckdale valley and returning to Helmsley on good paths. There is one hill climb.

A lovely walk in the countryside north of York. Lunch in Terrington on the village green.

Tuesday walk: Bishop wilton, Yapham, Meltonby and Great Givendale - 15 August

Start: 10am prompt

Car Parking: Roadside near the pub in Bishop Wilton

Distance: 6 miles

Time: 3 hours

This is a pleasant walk, mostly on good paths and tracks with a bit of road walking on quiet roads. There is one gradual ascent and a steep descent on the return to Bishop Wilton.There is a lovely Victorian church at Yapham and the lovely church at Great Givendale which makes a good lunch stop.

Start: 10am prompt. At Hawnby church, 1/2 mile west of the village on the Kepwick road. Hawnby is 6 miles north of Helmsley.

Refreshments and toilets: CafĂ© in Hawnby.

The walk takes you through woodland skirting Coomb Hill and Anaya's Wood, passing splendid Arden Hall onto moorland. Lovely views of Ryedale and Bilsdale.

This super walk close to Harrogate takes in a picturesque small castle and then some interesting sculptured gritstone outcrops. The villages of Follifoot and Spofforth retain their community charm with shops and pubs. Follifoot in particular enjoys a lovely secluded location close to the south of Harrogate.

This is a splendid walk providing extensive views across Yorkshire, and on a clear day, glimpses of the North Sea.

There is so much history to be experienced in the rolling Wolds hills.
