Distance: Approx 10 miles. (About 5 hours)
Level of difficulty: Moderate.
Refreshments/Toilets: Red Lion Inn and Westerdale (half way).
Westerdale, in the upper reaches of Eskdale, is surrounded by lofty moorland and has a lonely grandeur. We are starting from Red Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge and walk at the head of Rosedale, passing two of the many crosses that served as way marks to guide travellers of an earlier age.
After having reached Westerdale, and having had lunch, we turn back to Red Lion Inn following River Esk.
For those who are thirsty and hungry we stop at the Inn before going home.
