Sutton Bank, White Horse of Kilburn and Gormire Lake - Sunday 9th May

Much of this walk is visible from the viewpoint by the start of the walk, at the top of Sutton Bank. To the left, the way runs above the almost vertical cliffs of Roulston Scar, beyond which, but as yet hidden, lies the White Horse of Kilburn. Spread below are the Hood Hill plantations and tree-fringed waters of Gormire Lake.

The return is along the Cleveland Way, winding at the edge of a precipice above Whitestone Cliff and Sutton Brow, which form a dramatic boundary to the rolling Hambleton Hills that stretch away behind. In the woodland beneath the cliffs and by the lake we may well see squirrels and perhaps even deer, while the views from the escarpment are outstanding, and amply reward the climb to its airy heights.

Hutton-le-Hole/Lastingham - Sunday 11th April

Two picturesque villages and a church with a unique crypt are some of the interesting features on this relatively easy walk. Much of it lies along fieldd paths and tracks on the southern edge of the moors amidst the Tabular Hills. Yet, it wasalso a walk of great scenic variety, with the bleak and open moorland to the north contrasting with the flatter and lusher landscape of the Vale of Pickering to the south.

Weekend walks 2010

Following last years' weekend walk in the Lakes, Oddsocks are organising two weekend walks for 2010 as follows:

Yorkshire Three Peaks

The challenge is to walk the three Yorkshire peaks, comprising Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and last but not least Ingleborough in one 24.5 mile go.

The walk will be on Saturday 5th June, starting early in the morning from Horton in Ribblesdale.

The weekend will comprise arriving in the area on Friday 4th June (several of us are already booked into accomodation in nearby Austwick), do the walk on Saturday 5th June and celebrate in the local bars after, and then depart home on Sunday 6th June.

Of course, if you are not sure you can make the full 24.5 miles and three peaks, still come along and do one or two peaks and then return along the path to the start point in Horton in Ribblesdale.

If you want to join us or want further information, contact us.

Weekend in the Cheviots

We are planning a walking weekend in the wonderful and unspoilt Cheviot Hills in Northumberland.

The dates are Friday 24th to Sunday 26th September 2010.

More details to appear shortly.
