Weekend walks

The following weekend walks have been organised:

30 May - 1 June: Louth
4-6 July : Stamford
19-21 September: Pooley Bridge

The format of the weekend is generally and loosely as follows:

Friday: Arrive afternoon/evening and meet at a local pub around 7pm for drinks. Organise own meal.

Saturday: walk of 10-12 miles starting at 10am. After end of walk visit local cafe/pub for refreshments and then reconvene in local pub for drinks. Organise own meal.

Sunday: walk of 8 miles starting at 10am. After end of walk visit local cafe/pub and then head back to York.

Accommodation: simply book your own in one of the many local B&Bs, hotels, of camping/caravanning sites nearby.

Sunday walk: Goodmanham - Sunday 11 May - 10am

Start: 10am prompt from free car park (Signposted) on Edwins Garth, Goodmanham

Sunday walk: Goathland - Sunday 13 April - 10am

Start: 10am prompt - car parking available in the village - charges payable - £4

Distance: 8 miles

Level of difficulty: Easy to moderate

Facilities: Toilets and cafe in Goathland and Grosmont

The walk will head north across the Moors towards Grosmont where we may see heritage trains on the North York Moors Railway. There is an optional diversion to the engine shed at Grosmont. We will then return along the Esk Valley following the route of the railway towards Beck Hole taking in the industrial archeology along the way.

Sunday walk: Osmotherley - Sunday 9 March

Start: 10am prompt. Take the A19 north towards Osmotherley. Turn off the A19 towards Osmotherley. In the centre of the village, turn right and follow the road as it meanders along BurntHouse Bank, past Chequers B&B. Eventually you will come to a sharp left turn in the road called Square Corner where it meets the Cleveland Way. Parking on the road.

Cafe and toilet: cafe in Osmotherley

Starting with a little road walking, then across the moor towards Oak Dale Reservoir. The walk then joins the Cleveland Way with a steady climb back to the car park.

Sunday walk: Sutton Bank - Sunday 9th February

Start: 10am prompt from Sutton Bank National Park Centre Car Park

Parking: In the car park (parking fees apply)

Distance: 8 ish miles

Level of difficulty: moderate

Toilets: At the centre

Refreshments: Cafe at the centre

The plan is to descend to Goremire Lake then cross the A170 and tackle the White Horse steps before returning to the Centre. However, if we have had a lot of rain just before the walk and mud is an issue then there is an alternative route staying at the top of the bank.

Start: 10 am prompt

Parking: On roadside outside the back of Collier Plant hire on Moor Lane, Copmanthorpe.


Distance 8.3 miles

Level of difficulty: Easy, flat walk.

Toilets: None or bushes.

Refreshments: Royal Oak village pub afterwards.

Easy flat walk across farmland and near the railway.
